These trainings are designed for anyone seeking a solid foundation in order to use Photoshop to manipulate, modify, or optimize photographs and digital images. Taught by an Adobe Certified Instructor, who is also a working professional, you will learn not only an overview of Photoshop, but also valuable work-flow tips and tricks. Handouts are provided, and a certificate is given to each student on completion.
Here is an outline of what you can expect to learn in your 2 day Photoshop CS4 Training. This is subject to change depending on student needs and goals, and the 2 day training goals will be discussed on the first morning. Morning
In the first session you will become acquainted with the Adobe Photoshop interface (e.g., menus, palettes and icons).
You will delve into the Pixel and what a pixel is, including an introduction to color theory.
You will thoroughly review the tools in the tool bar, and their related brushes and options, as well as menu and option items (many of these are redundant, or work in concert with, the tools in the toolbar).
Some of the most important tools to master in Photoshop are the 'selection'/masking tools and you will work with these extensively with hands-on exercises and one-on-one assistance.
If appropriate to student needs, we will discuss Workflow issues and options re: Camera Raw and Lightroom.Afternoon
After reviewing the morning session, image resolution and color format will be discussed.
Using sample pictures, you will delve further in the 'selection'/masking process, and become familiar with the channels palette, and work on exercises to develop a high comfort level with these features.
I will introduce you to layer functions, and the layers palette including Adjustment layers, Type layers, Effects layers etc. You will become proficient with layer Styles and manipulating images using adjustable effects. You will be introduced to some tone and color correction tools to prepare you for a take home assignment that you will have to work on between sessions, including an introduction to the tone and color correction tools.
Morning
On the second day, after a thorough review, and a Q&A session, we cover the image color and tonal manipulation tools in depth, including Levels, Curves, Hue/Saturation, etc.
We discuss Adjustment Layers and Histograms, explore Layer Masks. Smart Objects and Smart Filters will be discussed, particularly the Sharpening filters. We will explore compositing, using selections and layers, and master them using hands-on exercises.
You will work with clipping masks and layer masks as a means to constrain and reveal shapes and textures, and master these extraordinary layer tools. We will fit in some fun hands-on tutorials on Type effects.Afternoon
Through Hands on exercises you will become familiar and comfortable with tools to modify, optimize, or color correct your images. Also covered will be Customizing your Workspace, saving and loading settings, working with History, Snapshots, and Layer Groups, as well as automation tools such as Actions. In this portion you come to an understanding of the Photoshop menu items for tools that enhance what you have learned, including Transform and Lens Correction. We will explore some new and updated features of Photoshop CS4 including Camera Raw, Vanishing Point, and Bridge.
This outline is subject to change depending on your needs, abilities, resources etc. You will benefit greatly by practicing what we go over in class. You will receive several projects and tutorials to practice on after the sessions.

1 day Adobe Lightroom Essentials class (email to inquire about upcoming dates and locations).
This one day workshop is for Adobe Lightroom 2.0 users that want to master Lightroom to input, edit, and output their images. You will learn how to download and rename photos, where the process of tagging images with copyright or keywords can begin. During the course of the day we will concentrate on the Develop module where most of the magic happens. Color and black-and-white techniques, color correction, cropping, white balancing, local and graduated corrections (in version 2.0) will be discussed. Learn best practices for preparing your photographs for print, and for printing your photographs on an ink-jet printer or photo lab. All students will work on a computer with Lightroom and sample images, but students are welcome to bring their own laptop and/or photographs to work on.
